Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations are taking place across Birmingham City Schools, and at Martha Gaskins Elementary, the gym was filled with music, dancing, andfun.Students kicked things off with a parade of flags representing different countries.

Students also shared what they enjoyed most, from learning about different countries to watching their classmates perform.

“I want students to take away from this event that we're all humans on this earth, and we all have a story to tell. We all come with different gifts, talents, and it's important that we share and tell our stories and understand different backgrounds,” said Principal Dr. Herbert Blackmon.

The school’s ESL program alsogives students opportunities throughout the month to learn about and celebrate Hispanic heritage together.
