Graduate students from the Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) returned to Barrett Elementary School today to conduct a white coat ceremony with future doctors and nurses!

The Aspiring Medical Students program, the first of its kind for Birmingham City Schools, is now in its second year. Barrett partnered with Heersink to give third- through fifth-grade scholars early exposure and training in the medical field. Students learned about various systems, body parts, vital organs, taking blood pressure, CPR, and more.

During the ceremony, the UAB graduate students presented on various careers, including medical doctor, dentist, nurse, and more. After accepting their white coats, the Barrett students recited the Hippocratic Oath!
