Each month, the Birmingham Board of Education recognizes the employees who go above and beyond the call of duty to make the district a better place, even when no one is looking.
These employees are critical to establishing and maintaining a positive culture and a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment. They inspire their colleagues and our students to pursue excellence, serve others, and collaborate effectively towards common goals.
During its regularly scheduled board meeting on September 8, the board recognized the following:
Kenneth McIntosh, Maintenance Department
Mr. Ken has been instrumental in helping us transform the appearance of our Bush Hills STEAM Academy through his painting, attention to detail, and commitment to making our building look its absolute best. Whether refreshing classrooms, hallways, common areas, or other spaces throughout the campus, he consistently approaches each project with professionalism, pride, and a willingness to do whatever is needed.
Currently, he is providing some much-needed love to our front office and admin hallways. My database manager called me today with excitement about how much brighter it is in the main office, and the look will definitely make the new furniture stand out once it arrives. Nevertheless, his work has played an important role in helping us create a cleaner, brighter, and more welcoming environment for our scholars, staff, families, and visitors.
Individuals like Mr. Ken make a tremendous difference. He does much more than simply put paint on walls. I have watched him take spaces that were dull, worn, or in need of attention at Bush Hills and other schools where I served in admin capacity and completely refresh them. I greatly appreciate his positive attitude, work ethic, flexibility, and the pride he takes in his craft. Each time I interact with him, he always has something positive or encouraging to say.
Mr. Ken deserves to be recognized for his contributions to Bush Hills, and I want you both to know how much we value the work he has done and continues to do for Bush Hills STEAM Academy.

Her professionalism, grace, and unwavering integrity truly set her apart. Not only is she a master of managing funds, but she goes above and beyond to ensure that both teachers and students have everything they need to thrive.
As a new faculty member, I've faced some challenges, yet Ms. Nance has been instrumental in making my transition seamless. Her guidance on expenditures, timesheets, and library-related funds has been invaluable. She is a true asset to Princeton and has been an incredible support to me personally!
