South Hampton K-8 scholar James Spates and his mother Shanikqwa Johnson

During its regularly scheduled board meeting on August 11, the Birmingham Board of Education presented Ms. Shanikqwa Johnson, parent of South Hampton K-8 scholar James Spates, with the Power of Partnership Award for her exceptional dedication and unwavering commitment to our scholars.

Ms. Johnson has generously given her time, talent, and heart in ways that have made a lasting impact on our school community. Her work with our STEM students in preparation for the ALTEC Challenge was instrumental in their outstanding achievement of a second place finish. Through her encouragement, guidance, and mentorship, she helped our scholars build both skills and confidence.

Additionally, Ms. Johnson's creativity and leadership were key in the development and production of our school's anti-bullying video, a project that has helped foster a more positive, supportive, and inclusive school culture.

We are grateful for her partnership, her passion for student success, and the countless ways she continues to inspire and uplift our school community. Please join us in congratulating Ms. Shanikqwa Johnson, recipient of the Power of Partnership Award.

Ms. Johnson was unable to attend, so South Hampton Principal Frank Willis accepted on her behalf.
