Each month, the Birmingham Board of Education recognizes the employees who go above and beyond the call of duty to make the district a better place, even when no one is looking. 

These employees are critical to establishing and maintaining a positive culture and a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment. They inspire their colleagues and our students to pursue excellence, serve others, and collaborate effectively towards common goals. 

During its regularly scheduled board meeting on July 21, the board recognized the following:

Dr. Petra Leonard, Personnel Coordinator, Human Resources Department

Program Specialist Aleshia Page nominated Dr. Petra Leonard for consistently going above and beyond. 

“From the time I started in January, she made the transition smooth and immediately put me at ease. Dr. Leonard was patient, thorough, and always willing to answer every question I had. She communicates in a very timely manner and, when needed, expertly points me in the right direction to ensure I get the support or information I need. Her professionalism, support, and willingness to help have made a meaningful difference in my experience, and I am truly grateful for her guidance,” she wrote.
