Each month, the Birmingham Board of Education recognizes the employees who go above and beyond the call of duty to make the district a better place, even when no one is looking.
These employees are critical to establishing and maintaining a positive culture and a safe, secure, and nurturing learning environment. They inspire their colleagues and our students to pursue excellence, serve others, and collaborate effectively towards common goals.
During its regularly scheduled board meeting on June 10, the board recognized:
Jessica Muhammad, Teacher, Phillips Academy
Mrs. Muhammad (pictured above) is the kind of teacher who consistently goes above and beyond for her students. She regularly attends their sporting events, dance recitals, high school and college graduations, probates, birthday parties, and any other activity that holds significance in their lives. In the month of May, Mrs. Muhammad hosted a graduation party at her home to celebrate her former students who were graduating from high school. This is a powerful testament to the lasting impact she has on her students' lives.
As the 6th grade math teacher, she ensures her students receive high-quality instruction, individualized support, and a nurturing classroom environment. Mrs. Muhammad not only prepares them academically but also mentors and inspires them to pursue their goals with confidence and resilience. Her commitment to student success, both inside and outside the classroom, makes her an invaluable member of Birmingham City Schools.
