According to the The Educational Opportunity Project at Stanford University, while school districts nationwide lag behind pre-pandemic levels in student achievement scores, Birmingham City Schools has recovered from those losses.

Data from 2022-23 shows Birmingham City Schools improved 0.52 grade levels above the national average in math scores.

And the national media are telling our story! The latest comes from the Carnegie Reporter, which featured the district and its recovery, as well as its outlook in the absence of pandemic-era funding, in its Summer 2024 issue. You can read the full story here.

The district has previously received coverage on this success story from the New York Times, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, and Forbes, among others.
