What is a Professional Learning Unit (PLU)?
A PLU is a content-driven, long-term unit of professional study for individuals seeking renewal of certification in areas of administration and/or supervision.
How are PLUs documented for renewal? PLUs are verified in the individual’s Chalkable/Powerschool (Chalkable PD) training history report and earned through the Alabama Council for Leadership Development (ACLD), an Alabama public school system, or an Alabama non-public school system. Individuals who do not have a Chalkable PD account should contact the Chalkable PD Specialist in the Educational Technology Section of this Department for assistance with establishing a Chalkable PD account.
Where can I find information about earning PLUs? Information about earning PLUs may be obtained on the website of the Professional Learning Section of this Department.

What do I do if my Alabama Professional Leadership Certificate has expired for MORE THAN 12 months?
If your certificate has expired for more than 12 months the ONLY option to reinstate your Alabama Professional Leadership Certificate is to obtain a passing score on the current Alabama-approved Praxis II test(s) for each area of certification in which reinstatement is sought. The test administration date must be after the most recent expiration date of the certificate to be reinstated. This option is not available if your expired certificate is in an area of certification for which there is no current Alabama-approved Praxis II test. For those areas, one of the other reinstatement options must be met.
