Ashley Valdivia, the Class of 2025 valedictorian at A.H. Parker High School, earned the prestigious Gates Scholarship.
Ashley is one of 750 scholars chosen from a pool of more than 48,000 applicants from across the nation for this selective, full-ride The Gates Scholarship recognizes students for outstanding academic achievements, leadership abilities, and commitment their commitment to service.
Ashley, who will graduate at the top of her class with a 4.18 GPA, has been a shining example of academic excellence, community engagement, and perseverance throughout her high school career.
"Ashley represents the very best of A.H. Parker High School," said Principal Darrell Hudson. "Her dedication, heart, and intellect have made an incredible impact. We are thrilled to see her talents and hard work recognized on a national stage through the Gates Scholarship."
The Gates Scholarship, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, covers the full cost of attendance not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution. It also provides ongoing support to help scholars reach their highest potential in college and beyond.
Ashley plans to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham this fall and major in Biology. Her career goal is to become a pediatric dentist.
"I am incredibly honored and grateful to be named a Gates Scholar," said Ashley. "This scholarship opens so many doors for me, and I am excited to take everything I have learned at A.H. Parker High School into the next chapter of my journey."
