Hayes K-8 Dress Code Reminder

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Beginning Monday, August 24, students will be expected to follow the Birmingham City Schools dress code each day. Students who arrive at school out of dress code will be addressed according to school and district procedures.

Please review these important expectations with your child:

* Pants, jeans, Capri pants, and appropriate-length walking shorts are permitted. Shorts should be no more than 2 inches above the knee
* Holes in clothing must fall below the fingertips when arms are fully extended at the sides.
* Students must wear enclosed shoes. Shoes with chains, steel toes, metal reinforcement, or other unsafe features are not permitted.
* Hoods may not be worn during the school day.
* Oversized clothing, sagging pants, pajamas, leggings, spandex, or other skintight clothing are not permitted.
* Cargo-style pants or shorts with excessive pockets, overalls, and coveralls are not permitted.
* Tank tops, tube tops, halter tops, mesh tops, midriff tops, or clothing that exposes cleavage are not permitted.
* Clothing or accessories displaying offensive, lewd, vulgar, or obscene language or images are prohibited.
* Male students wearing pants are required to wear a belt.

We are asking families to please check your child's attire before they leave home each morning. Your support will help us keep the focus on teaching, learning, and maintaining a safe and appropriate school environment.

For the complete dress code policy, please visit the Birmingham City Schools website and review the Student Code of Conduct.

Thank you for your continued support of Hayes K-8.

Parents and Guardians,

Effective immediately, our dismissal procedure for students classified as Avondale Walkers has changed.

For the safety of our students, staff, and families, students will no longer be permitted to be picked up on the street where our car rider line is located. Parents and guardians who are driving to pick up their child must enter the designated car rider line.

Administration and security will be present during dismissal to direct parents and help ensure the new procedure is followed.

Thank you for your cooperation and for supporting Hayes K-8 as we work to maintain a safe and orderly dismissal process for everyone.
